2 Favorite Art Projects

Hoodie with Sunglasses

This is the first of the two drawings that I love. Even though I look depressed in this charcoal drawing, I felt like it looked like me. First I did a pencil sketch of my hoodie, eyes and nose and worked from there, eventually adding the charcoal. I was quite surprised to see that this went out so good because I often suck with charcoal. If i were to improve anything about this drawing, I would of improved my lips and the place where the hoodie crosses. Otherwise, I love this drawing.

SKI

This is the second of my two favorite projects this year. I felt like this really described me as a person who loves to ski and I am really proud of it. How I planed this perspective drawing was that we had to choose a 3 or more letter word to draw. And me recently gone skiing, I thought that I would do this one. I also like the form and how it looks realistic which is another reason why I like it. The reason why it is not my number one favorite is because it looks slightly bland and lacks appeal, but other than that, its still one of my favorite.

Acrylic Landscape Painting

Beach Sunset

For my painting, I used two complementary colors. To be more specific, I used blue and orange as my complementary colors because I love the contrast the the two brings to each other. For my atmospheric perspective, I wanted to create a pleasant, relaxing feel to it an I thought that a sunset with mountains as my atmosphere and my background would give of that beautiful scenery. One thing that I was very proud of while doing this project was my light source. I created cloud with light shining through it because I knew that a good background makes any art look appealing. While painting the background and the stream, I used diagonal brush strokes because I thought that it would look cool. As for the sea, mountains (far and close) I used horizontal brush strokes. Allot of the value is mostly expressed in the sea where it gets darker in certain part of the ocean. I tried to add value to the rocks up close, but it went wrong and ended up using a monotone color. Other than that, this is one of my best painting so far and I hope to be better at painting.

Pastel Still Life

Bottle with Chocolate Mix (Yummy)

Bottlle with Chocolate mix was one of the few projects where I had to improvise with materials that were given to me. I wanted to use the chocolate mix I had with me at the time which served to be useful when doing the pastel drawing. When drawing the thumbnail sketch, I had to change the position of the items multiple times to get it to look good and I say that it turned out just fine. When actually choosing the colors to use, I wanted to have a high contrast so I used a dark blue for the ground and a sunset orange for the sky. I made the item look three dimensional by adding shading and making one side of the bottle look darker than the other side, giving it some realism. My teacher, Mrs. Brokey (sorry if I spelled it wrong) created the light source for me and I did not move seats because it looked good as it was.

Ceramics Project

Sun Bowl

The Sun Bowl was one of my more recent projects that took two weeks to complete. I used a process where the artist covers the outside of a bowl with clay. The bowl that I used looked more like a plastic top hat than a bowl giving the sculpture a unique apearance. My objective of the project was to make a bowl to hold onto snacks while I play games, but currently I have no use for it and see it as useless and undesireable. My desighn that I created was a sun like desighn, with a mixture of sharp and round edges. When I started to paint the dry bowl, I covered the edges just for fun, I also painted the center with what was supposed to be a sun. Finally I painted the bottom completely becuase if I left it alone, it would look to bland giving me a poor grade. The overall desighn and painting of the sculpture gave it its name of Sun Bowl due to how it resembled a sun. If I were to change anything about it, I would have wanted to change the bowl template I used because of its current, awkward state. Also, I wish that I had more time to work on the painting because I feel like I could have done better.
